What if convenience retail could feel intuitive, inspiring, and community-driven? In Dublin’s vibrant Drumcondra, Centra’s new flagship store redefines everyday shopping by blending design innovation, sustainability, and local spirit. A true collaboration between Musgrave and TAP, along with store owners Paul and Ger Thornton, the project sets a new benchmark for modern convenience.

Our Approach

[ INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY LED ]

At the core of the redesign was the shopper’s journey: what they want, where they begin, and how they flow through the store. We structured the layout around key “missions” — coffee and food-to-go, food-for-now, and food-for-later — so that navigation feels natural and intuitive, not forced.

The store introduces themed zones such as “Great Nights In” that curate snacks and drinks for specific occasions, making shopping quicker, more relevant and more enjoyable. Innovation is embedded in the experience: digital displays, hybrid deli ordering kiosks and dynamic signage bring convenience retail into the future. Sustainability is integral too, from energy-efficient systems to recycling stations and a Deposit Return Scheme machine, the store embraces community and environmental responsibility.

The Result

[ SETTING THE BENCHMARK IN CONVENIENCE RETAIL ]

The newly launched Centra Drumcondra isn’t just a store, it’s a destination. Shoppers immediately experience a space that is inviting, smart and rooted in the community.

With optimised flow, responsive design and forward-thinking features, the store aligns with evolving consumer behaviours and supports Centra’s broader expansion vision. It sets a benchmark for convenience retail in Ireland: a place where design, innovation, sustainability and local service converge to meet today’s needs and tomorrow’s expectations.
